Cooper:
Being on the road with MSI, what’s your reception been like so far?
Chibi:
It’s been really good. Really good. Going out with MSI, like their fans are coming out as well. So like the crowds are really nice but we have a lot of our own fans as well.
Adam:
How does playing a smaller venue such as Sokol Auditorium differ from playing to 30,000 plus festivals in Europe?
Chibi:
There’s pros and cons to each I think. I mean, if you’re playing at this big ole festival it’s obviously crazy and it’s great. But at the same time I find it kind of isolating.
Mike:
You’re pretty far away from the people.
Chibi:
You’re far from the crowd and you’re far from each other on the stage too because the stages are so big. Like, a smaller place or even like a littler club is great because you’re like “oh, here you are!” this is fun and this is great and here’s the fans, you know what I mean, and it’s good. But then, yeah, in Europe it’s like “there’s Mike, way over there”. And you’re like … you know, it’s kind of awkward. But it’s also really cool. You know?
Mike:
And when you play in small clubs you get to interact with the fans more closely and it’s more personal.
Cooper:
I Think We’re Alone Now. Was it more of an homage to Tommy And The Shandells or Tiffany?
Chibi:
Well, we’d wanted to do a cover song for a long time, but none of us could ever agree on what we wanted to do. Like, I was like, let’s do Def Leopard or something like this and “Mike” was like let’s do David Bowie. Se we could never really agree …
Cooper:
You could never find a middle ground?
Chibi:
Yeah! So we all kinda grew up knowing that song as Tiffany did it. And it was kind of like a song that we all liked. Maybe? You liked it right?
Mike:
Yeah. Well, when you’re a kid.
Cooper:
You don’t want to admit it publicly that you like it.
Mike:
It’s one of those guilty pleasures.
Cooper:
Exactly
Chibi:
It seemed to fit the vibe also, because one of the themes of the albums was school and being in school. And so that’s a song that we all liked when we were back in school.
