By Chirs Miles Photo Atlas Interview
Oh Oh Oh better say something now!!!
I talked to Alan of The Photo Atlas before their tour supporting their new cd coming out ‘No Not Me Never’!
The Photo Atlas is
Alan Andrews(Vocals/Guitar), Bill Threlkeld III(Guitar), Mark Hawkins (Bass), Devon Shirley (Drums/Sampling) - Alan, Bill, and Mark have been friends for over 10 years. Hooked up with Devon while posting for a drummer at a music store. He’s been with us for 2 ½ yrs. Tell me about the creative process that goes on when creating the band’s songs. - - I start out with some guitar riffs, the others kind of add in stuff from there. - Alan writes the lyrics If you could play with any other artist who would it be and why? - Cursive …very huge fan!! What are your touring plans? -We are just getting ready to start on a cross country tour! What do you plan to do to market your songs/cd? - We have reviews at purevolume, spin. But on our part we plan to play our asses off What was it like playing with Alkaline Trio at the Fox? -We are all big fans of Alkaline Trio ever since childhood, it was amazing playing with them! What was your favorite memory touring? -Best exp was playing at the CMJ opening nite party in New York!! At the purevolume loft! There was free booze all nite. It got to be quite a party! Back in July you guys were named one of the top ten underground bands by the Denver Post. That’s pretty cool recognition. Has that gotten you noticed by any other publications? -That was tremendous for us! It stemmed from our constant touring the Colorado area! Where did the origin of the band’s name come from? I heard it started out as Atlas, than due to other bands with same name was changed to The Photo Atlas. -Was originally named Atlas. Found out there were about 20 other bands with that name. We were hanging out at a restaurant at a booth trying to think of something. There was a photo booth in there. One of us jokingly suggested it. Then it eventually became our name, How was it touring with Little Brazil during their 21 stop tour? -It was a lot of fun! We really enjoy being out on the road. We enjoy being in a different city every nite, and really look forward to our upcoming tour! Our live show is where we thrive! Alan, Mark from California, Bill, Devon from Colorado …..Do you guys hang out when your not touring or making a cd together? -We are all good friends. Actually we all work together as well. As a matter of fact I’m on my way to work now. |
